This comparison photo from @salon_e really sets the TONE 👏

What is the difference?
Actually, nothing! They are all essentially the same thing, just different terms!
In the left photo, you are seeing newly balayaged hair after being shampooed. It lifted to a beautiful level 9, however, the client wanted a more bright, white blonde!
In the right photo, you see the change in tone after washing the toner off! Processed for 15 minutes

It is very rare that someone would lift to that perfect blonde, unless they are naturally blonde! Most people lift warm (yellow, orange) and that is where a toner would come into play!
A toner literally adjusts the tone of the hair!
So if you don’t like yellow blonde, and want to be ashy, we would use a toner!
There are so many combinations of toners to get you the desired color whether it be ashy, caramel, rose, chocolate, beige, etc!
Toners will also help seal the cuticle of the hair after lifting, leaving your hair shiny!
A toner (gloss, glaze) is temporary! They are typically a semi or demi color! This means that the toner will only last 4-6 weeks, depending on the products you use in your hair, and how often you wash your hair. This is why it is recommended to come in-between lightening services to re-tone! If you wait 10-12 weeks to lighten, your toner might only last half that time.
