This is my eighteenth year of writing professionally, and, having first been a copywriter who created advertising storyboards, before I moved on to features, columns, blogs, MarComm collateral, and books, I see how life has come a full circle, with my love for storytelling.
I'd been sitting on so many stories for years, I just dusted some off (and edited till I died) and thus and so, this collection was born.
I first wrote Vaidehi's story in 2007! I had naively titled it Unveiling then, thinking I'd turn it into a whole novel. I even ran with it on a marathon for a while, but obviously, it never reached the finish line.
Each of these stories is special to me, but if I had to pick a fave, it'd be When Physics Stood A Chance. Here's an excerpt: "I turn away, and feel a sudden gush of air under my right heel; a quick look tells me that the sole under my right shoe has given way, flapping like a practiced swimmer in the general direction of the wind.
Of course Physics evades me yet again, even if slightly, and I wonder if Yippal would have known just how to categorize this line of thought. Would he have known, for instance, to separate the distal force from the wake of the vortex that is causing the shoe sole to produce and hold on to its thrust as I die from shivering in the cold?"
