Mars as the future ☄️
Earth will become uninhabitable one day. That is for sure. We don’t know when it will happen, it could happen tomorrow, or a billion years from now. But being on one planet is a huge vulnerability for our species, and if we are the only intelligent beings, this is a huge risks for the universe. I don’t want to sound egotistical here, but sometimes I feel we are the only things that the universe can experience itself through. We are like tiny receptors of the whole cosmos that see, hear, touch, smell, taste, breath, run, eat, sleep and do bunch of other beautiful things. If intelligence dies with us, the universe could be dead forever. It is like having one hard drive on one computer with all data of humanity. You would certainly want to do some backup, right?
Going to Mars is just the first step we need to take to learn how to survive on other planets and moons. We certainly want to go beyond, maybe explore other solar systems, but we must learn first. And we will learn from our failures and successes. We know we failed this planet, how fossil fuels cause global warming, how plastic pollutes the environment, and how war kills millions of people. We will probably not make those errors again on Mars. We (science oriented people) learned from our mistakes. The chance of Earth and Mars becoming totally uninhabitable for humans against all technological advancement is close to zero. So we must go and make a backup. To save humanity, not to leave it in decay.
