My absolute favorite activity is planning an outfit.
I love nothing more than envisioning the character, and piecing together items that bring her to life.
One thing became very clear to me when I became a stylist, not everyone’s imagination plays the way that mine does. So while a client may love my look, they may not understand how to find pieces and string them together to convey their character most effectively.
This is what pulled me to find a balance between whimsy and practicality.
One piece that finds that balance, that I believe every lady should own, is the wrap dress.
It’s practical because it’s one piece that conveys respect, confidence, and elegance.
It’s whimsical because of its movement, the swish of the skirt as you walk. The hug at the waist that highlights the feminine curve, allowing the eye to continuously flow with admiration.
The extra beauty of a wrap dress is that it can be worn with over the knee boots, classic pumps, booties; changing the character of the dress each time, without losing the practicality or whimsy.
It’s a universally flattering silhouette, can be found at different price points, in many different colors and patterns. .
Let’s thank @dvf for pioneering this style. Her idea of blending femininity and practicality revolutionized the market for the working woman, she understood that most women were becoming single mothers, dealing with the pressure of being perfect for work, perfect at home, and how would she find the budget to do both. The iconic wrap dress was created from her own struggles of balancing the fine lines of being the idea of perfection to society, wrapped in a cloud of expectation, while building a fortress of independence.
The next time you feel at a loss of what to wear, the wrap dress is there, created by a women, who understands women. #thewomaniwantedtobe #alostsavant
