This adorable and quite large Texas fence lizard was one of the first herps of our trip, but he wasn't caught without one of our group members sustaining injury. Jack flipped him under a nice board, and for a few minutes we chased him between trash hidey holes until he got into a tire. Upon lifting the tire, a massive hornet stung Thomas on the finger (which proceeded to swell up and get quite red), but we did manage to get the lizard out. I think it was a worthy sacrifice. ~

Hey guys! This is my Rare Earth Red Ackie Monitor, Flick! I have made this account to show him as he matures as well as to provide information regarding care for this species (Varanus acanthurus) I will try to post several times a week! Flick is currently around 5 months old and is very skittish. Hopefully as time progresses he becomes very used to me. Follow if you want to see him grow and if you want weekly care tips! #ackiemonitor#ackie#redackie#lizard#care
Some kilometers from the Canberra Deep Space Complex is the Tidbinbilla National Reserve. Tidbinbilla, originally Jedbinbilla, has been inhabited by Aborigines pretty much since the invention of fire, some 20,000 years ago (as evidenced by archaeological digs in Birrigai, a short walk away). It was an important location for adulthood initiation ceremonies and with the migration of bogong moths, a place to rest and eat and catch up.
Besides being home to a whole variety of native wildlife like roos, platypus, and koalas, you can find dragons. Sadly not large enough to secure the iron throne. I'll have to think of something else.
