Very happy to be a part of the first edition of Alter Ego Magazine @alteregomagazine, featuring two poems from my upcoming third book. A big thank you once again to Trinity @fruitydiscobiscuits, who is herself only sixteen years of age and already a stunning poet and songstress and now, magazine creator! Be sure to check out her work.
In the meantime, here is one of the new poems:
Wherever I am Close to You
Slowly, I trace lines across her love-softened face.
I meet her skin so lightly she might think I was a midnight breeze.
I meet her skin so lightly,
my fingertips crackle with electricity.
I touch her so gently she might think I was a note of music.
Close, we draw as close
as our skin would allow.
It hurts that we can't draw closer.
A swirling ocean of hands and lips,
each one becoming indistinguishable;
not mine or hers, but belonging to a single, invisible Love;
brushstrokes in its living, moving masterpiece.
Our bodies so close,
I cannot tell whose lips are pressing on whose.
I cannot tell my quivers from her quivers,
my sighs from her sighs.
I cannot tell if it is her cheek
that I stroke with my finger;
I cannot tell who is holding who.
Our bodies so close,
it hurts to know they can't draw any closer.
And so we slip from them, shedding them,
like clumsy old garments;
we spill into each other's nameless silences;
become the fragrant air in the room.
home is wherever I am close to you.
Whatever the state, the continent,
the point on the map,
a roof overhead or a canopy of stars
—home is where the world folds back like a curtain;
home is where the hours and the minutes are still.
Home is your heartbeat resounding in my chest.
Home is my wish to see you smiling.
Home is our silent spirits
mingled in a fog.
Home is wherever I am close to you.
