Chapter one: “Devil’s playground”
Simple. That was the word that, according to Mackenzie herself, best defined her. The more time she spent in front of the mirror, the more she thought about it. Her brown eyes and dark hair did not contribute to her changing her mind. That morning she wore an elegant navy blue uniform, jacket and skirt, her feet wore leather shoes - the cheapest of the store-, accompanied by white socks. She did not find words, nor good enough, nor convincing, to justify how much she hated that outfit, she felt imprisoned. However, she was forced to fake a smile. -You are wonderful! - Exclaimed her mother overflowing.
In an hour classes began at the famous Richroses Institute, the most expensive in New York - and in the entire United States-. Her parents were euphoric to see her daughter dressed in the uniform of a prestigious school. The price of the tuition of that private center was unattainable for the middle class people, as was the case of the Ziegler family. However, Mackenzie was admitted thanks to the scholarship she earned, and she owes everything to the brilliant GPA she obtained at her previous school, she did not study for pleasure, she detested studying, for her there was no more somnolent activity in the world than that, but she could not oppose her parents, just as she could not refuse the place in Richroses. -Go now or you'll lose the bus- Said her father looking at the clock. -Yes. -Wait! - said her mother-Are you going to leave like this?
Mackenzie frowned. Like what? She looked for some stain in that impeccable uniform, but there was nothing. -What happens? - she asked without erasing that doubtful expression. -Well, you have not tied your hair, come here darling, I'll tie your hair.
In a few seconds, her mother, Melissa, made a high ponytail, which she wanted to decorate with a white ribbon, but Mackenzie prevented it. Just as she did not like to study, she did not feel much desire to wear her hair well combed; it was enough to brush it and take it straight, free. She stood up and, after saying goodbye to the enthusiastic glances of Melissa and Kurt, she went to class. .
