Do any of you moms and/or dads out there have a tough time getting your kids to eat healthy??? It is soooo me🙋‍♀️ I want my daughter to eat healthy, to start life on the right track being healthy so that she is fueled properly, and not eating adult sized food portions, and not getting letters in the mail from her school telling me that she’s overweight. It really makes me very sad 😞 
I wish I knew then what I am learning now about how to eat right. It would’ve been easier getting her to eat right BEFORE she developed bad habits. 
Here’s a tip: ▶️Get your kids involved in the grocery shopping and cooking process (This may be more challenging if you have more than one 😱). It makes it more fun for them and encourages them to try new things. ▶️ Play the game “what new fruits and vegetables are you willing to try?” Don’t buy a lot until you know they like it. Let them pick 2 or 3 new fruits or veggies per week and you can google how to prepare them. ‼️I’m excited to try this 👏🏻👏🏻

👉3 plátanos maduros 🍌
👉2 tazas de garbanzos cocidos
👉1/2 taza de aceite de aguacate (porque era el que tenía, pero si tienes otro, adelante o hasta mantequilla). 👉Harina de chícharo (porque caí en el marketing y la tendencia alimentaria, en otra ocasión hubiera sido harina de avena). 👉1/4 de taza de bebida vegetal sin azúcar. 👉Canela y bastante! 👉Pizca de sal.
👉Stevia. 👉Cacao nips (porque los amo, pero puedes agregar cualquier otro topping). Hornear por 35 min. Con papel encerado que facilita TODO. Y listo, te olvidas del desayuno de mañana. #provecho #mealprep

The perfect side dish with just about any meal, or throw them into sandwiches, wraps, salads or bowls for added roasted charred flavour! They’re so yum, you’ll even be down with snacking on them as is! 😋

1️⃣YOU NEED:
1/2 big red onion, sliced into rounds
Avocado oil spray
3 medium zucchini, sliced lengthwise & halved
1 bag mini bell peppers
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
Splash pure organic maple syrup
Juice from 2 🍋
1/2 tsp. smoked paprika
Black pepper & sea salt to taste
2 tbsp. dried parsley flakes
2 tsp. onion powder

2️⃣TO MAKE:
Preheat the oven to 425F & line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lay the onion on the baking sheet & top it with the veggies. Spray with avocado oil & season with the balsamic vinegar, maple syrup & spices.
Roast for 25 minutes, then broil on high for 2-3 minutes. Enjoy! 😘

Time for a long post, but Let’s talk a bit about food- what does your typical shopping trip look like? This is mine- I typically go every 3-4 days, as I love fresh fruit and food I don’t have to freeze. Not pictured are the things I buy in bulk, such as rice, hot sauce, protein powder, etc .. -

For awhile now, I have been stepping away from meal prepping because it hasn’t been working well for me. I found that when I am not feeling like eating out of a container or heating food up, I am more likely to let loose on foods or quantities of foods I shouldn’t be having. Truth be told, you don’t need to meal prep to a) follow a successful diet and b) be able to hit macros on a very busy schedule. It’s important that you take a week or two and try a few things out to see what works for you specifically. Yes, trying many things out might make life tougher for a week but it’s worth it. Food/nutrition in general is one of the most important factors in fitness/weight loss/dieting/bulking or whatever you’re going for, so don’t skimp out on the time it takes to figure out how to do it properly.

For me, I took time to figure out how to hit my macros perfectly, meal prep absolutely nothing, and still operate on a very busy schedule with minimal downtime. A typical day for me (with normal food/no surprises or things I don’t usually do) would go as follows: I only have coffee and water from when I wake up to about 11am. At work, I only consume around 600 cals, which usually consists of some berries, an apple, and a couple different protein bars. I spread those things out so I’m not starving all day. It also works for me because I’m constantly on the go for work. When I get home, I immediately put on rice for a very big meal. I get settled in while rice cooks, then spend 10 mins cooking some ground turkey and time that to finish when the rice does. After eating that, i use the time it takes to digest to prepare for the next day, whether that is completing typical tasks like laundry/shopping, or doing extra work and planning for normal life things. After that, I get my workout in, and have a small meal when I get home before bed. Max energy for my lifts without starvation !

Instructions:
In a large glass mixing bowl place shrimp and BBQ seasoning ingredients and gently stir well to combine. 
Set aside for just a few minutes.

In another bowl, add chopped tomatoes, avocado, onions, cilantro, lime juice, sea salt and pepper. Very gently toss to combine. 
Set aside.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side or until they've turned pink and form a nice lightly charring in spots as pictured.

Add 1/2 cup cooked brown rice to each bowl or meal prep container.
Then divide the cooked shrimp and avocado salsa equally, and nicely among the 4 bowls, or meal prep containers as shown.

Serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 3 days. Enjoy! ❤

BBQ Shrimp + Limey Avocado Salsa Meal Prep Bowls 🌞🔥🥑
{ It is the day for Meal Prep! But...it's also Summtime and you've got memories to go make!
This combo is so darn tasty and SATISFYING...plus, it comes together FAST! So, make it for lunch or dinner today, double the recipe, and store the extra servings - so your next few days are simpler! }
makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
2 pounds large shrimp, deveined and peeled
2 cups cherry tomatoes, cut into quarters
1 large avocado, pitted and chopped
4 green onions, chopped
2 fresh limes, juiced
1 handful fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
1 Tbsp avocado oil, or extra virgin olive oil
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
lime wedges, to garnish

For serving:
2 cups cooked brown rice

for the BBQ spice mix:
1 Tbsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Also, I want to preface that there is nothing wrong with struggling to not overeat on things like Oreos (yesterday post) and cereal.

And it’s equally ok to not have them in the house to make it easier for you.

All I want to do is to get you guys thinking about the narrative you are telling yourselves about these foods. “This food is a trigger for me. Once I have some, I have to eat the whole box!” You are giving these foods way too much power.

By creating that narrative, you are setting yourself up to fail.

Trust me, I’ve done it soo much!

And the moment I just saw it as food that is engineered to make me want to eat more of it

And that it’s going to be much more difficult to stop eating than it is eating fruits or veggies

I gave myself permission to say change the narrative. To not let these foods control me.

To enjoy them and not feel like a piece of sh*t for eating them. To not see myself as a failure that now needs to eat the whole box to get it out of my system.

A few of you guys have made and sent me pictures of the Butternut Squash Lasagna recipe recently and they always look awesome. It’s a great recipe to use for dinner parties/when you have guests over in addition to meal prepping. It makes you look fancy and it isn’t difficult at all to make. If you can cook ground meat and cut a squash, you can make this dish. The sweetness of the Butternut Squash tastes awesome against the sausage in the meat mixture. Using ground turkey and ground turkey sausage can make this dish lower in calories while maintaining the same amount of volume if that is something you need. .

Stuffed peppers are tricky way to sneak more vegetables into your meals. The meat mixture that you stuff the pepper with can hide different vegetables fairly well. I usually put some zucchini in there but shredded carrots, finely chopped broccoli, or spinach would also be easy additions. .

When it comes to milk here’s what you need to know! If you can tolerate cows milk and enjoy it then this is by far the most nutrient dense option. It’s also an excellent source of the BCAA leucine which helps to rebuild and repair muscle tissue. (Very important if you’re trying to lose weight or maintain your weight loss efforts) Opt for one with moderate fat levels as this will also help to improve satiety and give you a boost of fat soluble vitamins.💁‍♀️

In terms of plant based milk SOY MILK is by far the superior option. It is also a complete protein source (unlike other plant milks) and contains quite good levels of muscle building leucine. Buy one which is unsweetened, high in protein and calcium fortified. The less ingredients and the higher percentage of whole soy beans the better.

Almond, coconut, oat, rice etc are mostly water (most are also low protein and calcium and high in added sugar) so you’re better off making your own or investing in the Whole Foods items and eating more of them.
